Brief info about Vinted
Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:
Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.
Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.
Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.
Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Our backers include Accel, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sprints, and TPG.
Information about the position
At Vinted, backend engineers are part of cross-functional product teams that include Mobile, Web, and Backend engineers, as well as a product manager, designer, and decision scientist. Backend engineers are responsible for implementing business logic, developing APIs for our FE platforms, and scaling our backend systems to meet growing and performance platform needs.
The Order domain encompasses all the processes and contexts related to the end-to-end lifecycle of a transaction - from purchase and payment through shipment, fulfillment, finance, and resolution - managing the systems that keep orders moving where logistics and real-life uncertainty meet software.
We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to strengthen the team called “More”, focused on Order Resolution: making sure an order ends well - either in a successful pickup, or through the right resolution path when something goes wrong (item is lost, damaged or not as expected), including shipping returns and disputes. We’re a cross-functional team of 4 BE, 3 FE, 2 QA, a Product Manager, Designer, and Decision Scientist. Our mission is simple: help our users not lose their assets for reasons they don’t control - so they keep using Vinted without fear.
We want someone who enjoys building reliable backend systems with a pragmatic mindset, can balance short-term delivery with long-term stability, and is excited to own production outcomes together with the team (quality, availability, and measurable impact).
In this position, you’ll
- Modernize core workflows by extracting existing functionality from a monolith into standalone service(s) using Ruby and Go, with a focus on Order Resolution flows.
- Ship confidently to production by contributing to continuously tested and deployed services: unit tests for everything you write, plus integration/e2e coverage where it matters most.
- Release with control by using feature flags and A/B tests for new features, so changes are measurable and reversible.
- Own reliability end-to-end by taking responsibility for critical alerts and business metrics, and driving services toward high availability with team-owned SLIs/SLOs.
- Operate what you build by joining an on-call rotation and monitoring production through tooling like Grafana/Prometheus, Kibana, DataDog.
- Design for distributed reality by building eventually consistent systems to keep data synchronized across cross-Atlantic markets without sacrificing performance, and using transaction orchestration patterns for reliable multi-step operations across services.
- Raise the bar through collaboration via fast GitHub PR reviews, direct and actionable feedback, and mentoring others through sharing approaches, trade-offs, and engineering principles.
About you
- Backend-first mindset - you’re strong in backend engineering and excited to go deep on Ruby and/or Go (Ruby experience is a plus, not a blocker).
- Distributed systems fluency - you’re comfortable with service-oriented architecture and you can clearly explain the pros/cons of (micro)services and enterprise patterns.
- Reliability ownership - you’re willing to be on-call, you think in SLIs/SLOs, and you treat alerts and business-critical metrics as part of engineering (not “ops work”).
- Pragmatic builder - you choose approaches based on trade-offs, avoid over-engineering, and keep long-term stability in mind even under pressure.
- Documentation and clarity - you define the “what/how/who” early and leave behind documentation others can build on (RFCs/ADRs/proposals).
- Collaborative teammate - you enjoy healthy debate, give and receive direct feedback, and invest in helping others grow.
- Curious and proactive - you spot problems in product/platform, bring improvements to the table, and leave the codebase better than you found it.
