Information about the position
At Vinted, backend engineers are part of cross-functional product teams that include Mobile, Web, and Backend engineers, as well as a product manager, designer, and decision scientist. Backend engineers are responsible for implementing business logic, developing APIs for our mobile and web platforms, and scaling our backend systems to meet growing platform needs.
The Purchase domain guides members from the initial intent to buy to the successful purchase of the desired item. It is composed of several teams that work on delivering smooth checkout, payment, shipping, and messaging functionality to our users.
We’re looking for Backend Engineers to strengthen two amazing teams -
One team is focused on building Vinted’s messaging experience - a key feature that enables members to communicate, negotiate prices, receive order updates, contact support, and much more.
The other team is focused on ensuring a seamless payment experience during checkout for Vinted users by providing and supporting a multitude of payment methods across the globe, ensuring a smooth and secure transaction experience.
Our teams are seeking Backend Engineers who write clean, elegant code and enjoy working on large-scale projects. Your main goal will be to help evolve our product to meet future challenges, while contributing to Vinted’s mission of making second-hand the first choice, all with a strong focus on delivering an exceptional payment and messaging experience.

In this position, you’ll
- Work on extracting existing functionality from the monolith into standalone services using the Go language and Ruby. Experience with Go is preferred, but not strictly required
- Ruby is still our weapon of choice - be ready to embrace it and enjoy its elegance once you master it
- Contribute to continuously tested and deployed applications by adding more tests, new features, and breaking down large monoliths into smaller, manageable components
- Monitor your deployed code through tools like Kibana, Grafana, and DataDog
- Apply Agile and Lean principles in your work and collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews
- See your code affect 85 million users almost instantly, as our master branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge
- Own SLIs/SLOs in the product team to ensure quality and reliability
- Be ready to partner across teams to prioritize and deliver results
- Provide direct and impactful feedback in team functions and seek feedback from team members to grow
About you
- You are willing to learn and excel at new technologies and concepts
- You love to improve things, and if you see something that needs improvement, you actively bring it to the table
- You are familiar with the following disciplines: Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, Systems Architecture, Service Oriented Architecture
- You have some knowledge about enterprise architecture patterns, (micro)services, and their pros/cons
- You enjoy collaboration and being part of the team
- You can engage in constructive and healthy conflict, expressing your views openly, while maintaining respect and professionalism towards colleagues

The salary range for this position is € 3,558 - € 4,808 gross per month.
