Information about the position

We are expanding our Portal team within the Member Lifecycle domain and are seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer. Our team's mission is to make Vinted user base expansion seamless.

The multicultural, distributed product engineering team focuses on expanding Vinted to new countries and improving the user experience through various experiments. By joining this team, you will be surrounded by expert peers who value collaboration and innovation.

We seek a collaborative and results-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment. This role's primary responsibility is implementing product changes while modularizing and scaling our global codebase. By doing so, you will contribute to Vinted's vision of making second-hand the first choice worldwide.

In this position, you’ll

  • Apply Agile and Scrum principles in your work.
  • Collaborate with other engineers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews.
  • Effectively partner across teams to prioritise and deliver results.
  • Improve our user experience by implementing product changes, often via experimentation.
  • Help to grow Vinted's user base by preparing our application for new markets.
  • Break down large monoliths into smaller, manageable components and services.
  • Make data-driven decisions.
  • See your code affect 85+ million users almost instantly. Our main branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge.
  • Work with one of the world's biggest Ruby on Rails codebases, MySQL, Memcached, Elasticsearch, and many more technologies, including new services in Go. We don't expect you to be familiar with any of them beforehand.
  • Monitor your deployed code through Kibana, Grafana, and DataDog.

About you

  • You are an experienced back-end engineer
  • You are eager to learn and master new technologies and concepts
  • You have a strong desire and commitment to personal and professional growth
  • You are comfortable communicating effectively in both spoken and written English
  • You have knowledge of system architecture and can operate on a conceptual level (e.g. evaluate short-term vs. long-term solutions) as well as drive the design of solutions in an elegant and maintainable way.
  • Love keeping it simple and don’t like to over-engineer things.
  • You love fixing things and, more importantly, understanding how they work.
  • You can balance product and technical initiatives to deliver business value
  • You are willing to take the lead in addressing issues and driving improvements.
