Information about the position 

In the Seller domain, we empower sellers with tools for success, encompassing various features designed to enhance their experience. Our domain focuses on paid features that improve visibility and convenience, such as item and wardrobe promotion. 

We seek a Backend Engineer to join our cross-functional product team in the advertising technology (Adtech) industry. In this role, you will develop and enhance scalable, reliable, and high-performing solutions, both existing and new. You will play a crucial role in implementing business logic and APIs for our mobile and web platforms, addressing technical challenges, and expanding our backend infrastructure to accommodate growing demands.

In this position, you’ll 

  • Work with one of the largest Ruby on Rails codebases in the world, alongside technologies like MySQL, Redis, Go, Vespa, Apache Flink, and more.*
  • Maintain existing Ruby on Rails solutions and develop new ones using Go.
  • See the immediate impact of your code on our 80+ million users, creating code capable of handling over 2 million requests per minute.
  • Spend two sprints per quarter on technical initiatives and improvements, such as breaking down large monoliths into smaller, manageable components and services.
  • Write unit tests (RSpec) for all your code contributions, aiming for nearly 100% code coverage, and monitor your deployed code using tools like Kibana, Grafana, and DataDog.
  • Collaborate closely with the product and business teams to understand the reasons behind product decisions, and suggest product and technical initiatives for the backlog, prioritizing them together with the team.
  • Learn and grow through interactions with other senior backend and frontend engineers on the team.

We do not expect you to be familiar with Ruby or other specific technologies initially; instead, we will provide time and support to help you acclimate to the languages and tools we use. During the interview process, we will evaluate your proficiency in a backend language in which you are most confident.

About you 

  • You are eager to learn and master new technologies and concepts, with a strong motivation to explore new tools (for instance, Kubernetes) and learn new languages, like Ruby on Rails and Go. 
  • You have experience building large-scale applications and are familiar with distributed systems, continuous integration, deployment pipelines, and service-oriented architecture.
  • You have excellent written and spoken English skills, and can engage in constructive discussions on complex topics while maintaining professionalism.
  • You take pleasure in working collaboratively with teammates, sharing knowledge, and fostering a positive and cooperative environment.
  • You are curious about exploring and solving challenging backend development problems, committed to writing clean, maintainable code, and designing systems focused on accuracy and quality.
