Brief info about Vinted
Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:
Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.
Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.
Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.
Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people.
Information about the position
We’re looking for Senior Backend Engineers to join Vinted Payments Product - the financial product powering payments, payouts, balances and verification flows for millions of Vinted members.
Depending on your background and interests, you could join one of two teams:
- Verifications - the team building identity, eKYC and bank account verification systems behind Vinted Pay. Their work helps confirm that members are who they say they are, and that their bank account really belongs to them.
- Phoenix - the team building and scaling the core ledger systems at the heart of Vinted Pay. Their work ensures every money movement is recorded correctly and every balance is right.
Both teams work on business-critical, compliance-sensitive backend systems used at scale. We’re launching new markets, onboarding millions of members onto Vinted Pay, and building foundations that will support the platform for years to come.
In this position, you’ll
- Work in a compact product-engineering team with backend engineers, an engineering manager, a product manager and a decision scientist.
- Build and operate backend services that directly support payments, payouts, verification, onboarding, balance activation and money movement across Vinted Pay.
- Own topics end-to-end: from an unclear requirement to a written technical proposal, cross-team alignment, implementation, rollout behind feature flags and monitoring in production.
- Improve and scale high-throughput services in Go, and connect them into reliable, always-on payment and verification flows.
- Build resilient integrations with third-party providers, including API clients, callbacks, durable workflows, dashboards, SLA alerts and vendor-facing debugging.
- Design systems that handle failure well: timeouts, provider outages, rate limits, retries, missing callbacks, inconsistent responses and data consistency issues.
- Work with distributed systems concepts such as idempotency, at-least-once delivery, workflow orchestration, provider routing and consistency across services.
- Handle sensitive financial and personal data responsibly, including PII tagging, log masking, retention and deletion requirements.
- Use AI-assisted engineering workflows with tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and others to build, debug, investigate production issues and write plans or documentation.
- See your code affect millions of members almost instantly. Our main branch is deployed straight to production on each merge, many times per day.
- Write unit tests for the code you write and contribute to integration and E2E testing.
- Own critical alerts and business metrics to design and maintain high-availability systems (targeting 99.99% uptime).
- Participate in on-call rotations and support production systems used across Vinted Pay.
- Work with technologies such as Go, Ruby, Temporal, Kafka, MySQL, Redis, OpenSearch, S3, OpenAPI-first code generation, testcontainers, Prometheus, Grafana, Kubernetes and AWS.
About you
- You have solid experience building and running backend services in production.
- You know at least one programming language deeply (any) and can become productive in Go quickly. Experience with Go and/or Ruby is a strong advantage.
- You’re comfortable with API design, caching, system architecture and distributed systems fundamentals.
- You have experience, or strong interest, in building reliable systems where correctness, availability and data consistency matter.
- You navigate ambiguity well: given a vague requirement, you extract the real need, propose a solution with trade-offs and drive it to agreement.
- You think like a product engineer: you ask why before how, challenge requirements when needed, and care about user and business outcomes - not just closing tickets.
- You’re practical and prefer simple, maintainable solutions over unnecessary complexity.
- You document what you build through proposals, RFCs, ADRs or technical plans.
- You care deeply about observability: dashboards, alerts, and taking responsibility when issues arise.
- You can explain technical trade-offs to non-engineers and give code or design reviews that make others better.
- You’re comfortable working with sensitive financial or personal data and within compliance or regulatory constraints.
- You use AI tools and agentic workflows effectively, and help the wider team get better at them.
- You have excellent written and spoken English.
Advantages:
- Experience in payments, fintech, KYC/AML or another regulated domain.
- Experience with Temporal or a similar workflow engine.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and handling timeouts, rate limits, inconsistent responses or missing callbacks.
- Experience working on ledgers, money movement, verification, identity, compliance or high-availability financial systems.
