Information about the position
As our new Staff Engineer for Observability, you will be a key leader within our Service Ecosystem Domain. You will guide the technical strategy for how we monitor, trace, and understand the health of Vinted’s rapidly scaling distributed platform. Working closely with the Observability teams, you will report to the Director of Engineering of the Service Ecosystem domain in Platform Unit and collaborate with other Staff Engineers across Infrastructure and other Business Units. You will have the opportunity to own, shape, and guide the technical direction of our entire observability ecosystem.

In this position, you’ll
- Own the technical vision and strategy for Vinted's observability ecosystem (metrics, logging, distributed tracing, and APM) across a massive microservices architecture.
- Define and set the company-wide standards for telemetry, SLAs, SLOs, and alerting for Vinted Marketplace.
- Guide the technical roadmaps of Observability teams, ensuring their deliverables align with the long-term platform unit goals.
- Lead improvements in engineering practices, acting as a force multiplier to help product teams easily adopt observability best practices with minimal friction.
- Collaborate deeply with platform teams, infrastructure, and other staff engineers to unblock the delivery of major technical initiatives.
- Represent the Observability technological area within the Staff/Principal Engineer layer.
- Manage project priorities, evaluate vendor tooling vs. in-house solutions (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana), and oversee large-scale technical migrations.
About you
- Extensive prior experience as an architect or a staff engineer, having delivered cross-team observability or infrastructure initiatives in organizations of scale.
- Deep understanding of enterprise architecture patterns and how to monitor distributed systems, asynchronous communication, and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on expertise with modern observability stacks (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog, Jaeger).
- Deeply familiar with incident response lifecycles, capacity planning, and building resilient systems.
- Demonstrable expertise in designing and implementing effective technical strategies and driving their adoption across hundreds of engineers.
- Ability to delegate refinement and implementation of technical initiatives to engineers in your organization.
- Sharp communication skills and an ability to discuss complex topics in detail, while building relationships, alignment, and consensus across functions and departments.

The salary range for this position is € 8,000 - € 11,700 gross per month.
