Brief info about Vinted

Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:

Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.

Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.

Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.

Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people. Our backers include Accel, EQT Growth, Insight Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sprints, and TPG.

Information about the position

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Test to join our Vinted Pay engineering team. Our goal is to build secure & reliable payments solutions for all Vinted buyers and sellers. Testing is playing a crucial role in reaching this goal. Vinted Pay now has a solid foundation of layered test automation - API tests, performance tests, chaos experiments, and UI tests integrated across our routines and development lifecycles. As the product scales in complexity, traffic and new market requirements, this foundation must evolve. Our goal is to extend and modernize these testing layers so they keep pace not only with Vinted Pay’s rapid growth, but also with new industry standards for reliability, resilience, and security.
This is the foundation that enables Vinted Pay to scale with confidence, meet regulatory expectations, and deliver a seamless payment experience.

In this role, you will be a driver of our testing strategy, focusing on building robust tooling and infrastructure that empowers our developers to ship code with speed and confidence. You will work alongside cross-functional teams to shift quality "to the left," ensuring that high standards are integrated into the development lifecycle from the very beginning.

Our current ecosystem relies on Ruby (RSpec) and TypeScript (Playwright) for functional testing, with k6 powering our performance suites. This entire infrastructure is supported by Docker and Kubernetes, managed through GitHub Actions to ensure a tight feedback loop for our engineering teams.

In this position, you’ll

  • Build and evolve testing infrastructure: You will design, develop, and maintain specialized tooling and frameworks that enable faster development cycles and reliable automated testing.
  • Expand our testing suite: You will expand our current test suite ensuring our test suites evolve alongside our product to maintain high reliability as we grow.
  • Work with Engineering Team and other Software Engineers in Test: You will be embedded within a backend team that is building features and tools that enables Know-Your-Customer procedure and prevents money laundering (AML). While simultaneously collaborating with the wider Software Engineer in Test community to define and align the overarching Vinted Pay testing strategy.
  • Enable Engineering Teams: Rather than just finding bugs, you will provide the tools and guidance that allow developers to take ownership of their own code quality.
  • Collaborate through Code Reviews: Work with peers via GitHub pull requests where we maintain a fast pace, ensuring code quality without sacrificing speed.
  • Drive Technical Excellence: Use modern technologies and AI-assisted tools (like GitHub Copilot or Cursor) to optimize test suites and improve system observability.
  • Influence Architecture: Consult on system design to ensure testability and scalability, helping teams choose the right testing levels (unit, integration, or e2e) for their features.
  • Analyze and Optimize: Use data to identify bottlenecks in the CI/CD pipeline and lead initiatives to reduce flaky tests and improve build stability.

About you

  • Technical Expert in Test Automation: You have a deep understanding of software engineering principles and extensive experience building test automation frameworks from scratch. You are comfortable working with code-based API testing and modern browser automation tools.
  • Practical technical knowledge: You have deep expertise in at least one programming language used professionally. A big plus would be if you are familiar with k6 performance tests, Jenkins or GitHubAction or other CI tools.
  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: You focus on delivering value and avoid over-engineering. You know when to build a custom tool and when to use existing solutions to solve quality bottlenecks.
  • Quality Advocate with a Developer Mindset: You view testing as an engineering challenge. You are passionate about clean code, design patterns, and building systems that are "testable by design."
  • Continuous and Passionate Learner: You stay ahead of industry trends in DevOps, CI/CD, and testing automation, and you are eager to bring that knowledge to the team.
  • Mentor and Knowledge Sharer: You enjoy leveling up the engineers around you. You can clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strategic Thinker: You don't just look at a single feature; you understand how different components of a large-scale payments system interact and how to ensure their collective reliability.
  • Collaborative Team Player: You prioritize the team's success over individual wins, fostering a culture of shared responsibility for quality across the entire engineering organization.
