Information about the position
This is a key technical role within Vinted Go’s Maintenance organisation, focused on the successful deployment, handover, optimisation and long-term reliability of strategic automated equipment, starting with our cross-belt sorter project.
You’ll act as the Maintenance owner during project phases, working closely with OEMs, integrators, Operations, IT and internal stakeholders to ensure that equipment is safe, maintainable, well documented and ready for stable operations.
The role combines automation expertise, maintenance strategy, technical documentation, spare-parts management, troubleshooting, vendor follow-up and technician training. We’re looking for a hands-on, structured and ownership-driven engineer who is comfortable working on the shop floor, diagnosing complex issues, challenging suppliers constructively and improving equipment performance over time.
This is a site-based role in an operational warehouse environment, with regular presence on the shop floor. Travel may be required to other Vinted Go sites and OEM premises, especially during FAT, commissioning and ramp-up. The role is day-based with no on-call requirement, but flexibility may be needed during commissioning, ramp-up or major incidents.
In this position, you'll
1. Lead maintenance input during project phases
- Represent Maintenance in every phase of new equipment projects (starting with the cross-belt sorter), from design reviews to FAT, SAT, commissioning and ramp-up. As the sorter design is already finalised, the initial focus will be to take ownership of the installed system and optimise it after go-live.
- Work side by side with the OEM / integrator engineers: collect technical knowledge, challenge design choices, maintainability, access, spare-part strategy and the proposed maintenance plan before final approval.
- Define and verify the Maintenance acceptance criteria (documentation, training, spare-parts, safety, availability targets). Maintenance sign-off will be required before handover to operations.
- Track and drive to closure the technical punch list and warranty issues raised during commissioning and the warranty period.
2. Own technical documentation and spare-parts strategy
- Build and own the equipment technical documentation: as-built electrical and mechanical drawings, PLC and software versions, parameter backups, network architecture, safety documentation, OEM manuals.
- Set up the asset hierarchy and criticality assessment in the CMMS.
- Define the critical spare-parts list (references, min/max stock, lead times) and keep it up to date.
- Help reduce reliance on OEM support by identifying and qualifying alternative suppliers for critical parts.
- Propose spare-parts and supplier decisions to the Maintenance Manager; after an initial period, take these decisions autonomously within agreed limits, with the Maintenance Manager's validation.
3. Develop maintenance strategy and procedures
- Write and maintain preventive maintenance plans, corrective procedures and troubleshooting guides for the equipment family, based on OEM data, FMEA and field experience.
- Monitor equipment performance (availability, MTBF, MTTR, top failure modes), lead root-cause analysis on recurring or major failures and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Challenge the original design when needed and drive engineering changes: retrofits, drive and firmware updates, software or parameter optimisation, with the OEM and internal stakeholders.
4. Train and support maintenance teams
- Train the operational maintenance team (technicians and operatives) on the equipment, its software/HMI and the troubleshooting procedures; confirm they can work independently.
- Act as the level-2 / level-3 technical expert for the equipment family on site and remotely, across sites.
5. Manage escalations, vendors and SLAs
- Own technical escalations through to resolution: with the Tetris team (Vinted's internal tools and sorting logic) when the issue is on the software or data side, and with OEM / integrator support (SAV) when it is on the equipment side.
- Lead the diagnosis to determine whether the issue comes from (equipment, controls, Vinted software), with facts and data.
- Work within the after-sales and maintenance agreements already in place with OEMs: make the most of them day to day, monitor performance against SLAs and warranty terms, feed lessons learned into future renewals, and provide the technical evidence to the program managers, who own the contractual relationship.
- Prepare and lead technical review meetings with OEMs and integrators.
6. Ensure safety and compliance
- Ensure the equipment and its maintenance comply with machine safety requirements (CE marking, safety functions, lock-out/tag-out) and site H&S standards.
- Support safety audits and regulatory inspections, and drive the resulting corrective actions to completion.
Occasional responsibilities
- Take ownership of additional equipment families (e.g. conveyors, AMR fleets, Monk lines) once the cross-belt is stable.
- Support pre-project technical due diligence on new equipment (specifications, vendor benchmarks, maintainability review).
- Participate in the hiring and onboarding of maintenance technicians and future engineers.
About you
- Engineering degree (Master's / Bac+5) in automation, electrical, mechatronics or industrial engineering, or Bac+2/3 with equivalent proven experience.
- At least 3 years' experience, ideally 5 or more, as Equipment Engineer, Automation Engineer, Tool Owner or Maintenance/Reliability Engineer in a highly automated environment: parcel sortation and intralogistics, airport baggage handling, logistics or other automated industries.
- Automation background required.
- Proven involvement in at least one industrial equipment project from FAT/SAT to ramp-up, working with OEMs or integrators.
- Able to read and diagnose complete PLC and HMI programs (Siemens TIA Portal and/or Rockwell, Beckhoff) and to make controlled modifications; industrial networks (Profinet, Profibus, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP).
- Drives (parameters, firmware), servo motors, sensors, scanners / DWS, pneumatics; reading electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Retrofit experience and component qualification (equivalence, compatibility testing)
- Safety PLCs and machine safety functions.
- Understanding of the interfaces between equipment controls, SCADA/WCS and IT systems.
- Reliability methods: FMEA, RCA (5 Why, Ishikawa, 8D), criticality analysis; CMMS and PM planning.
- Sortation equipment experience (cross-belt, tilt-tray, shoe sorters) is a strong plus.
- French electrical certification (habilitation électrique BR / B2V / BC) or ability to obtain it.
- Fluent French and professional English (OEMs and the Vinted Go network work in English).
- Strong ownership: treats the equipment as their own, from design to end of life.
- Able to challenge OEM and integrator engineers constructively, with facts and data.
- Structured and disciplined in documentation.
- Good teacher: enjoys transferring knowledge to technicians.
- Calm and solution-oriented under production pressure; strong safety mindset.
