Brief info about Vinted
Our mission is to make second-hand the first choice, and we're looking for people who want to help us get there. Every day, we work together to help our members buy and sell pre-loved clothing and lifestyle items, giving each piece a second life – or even a third.
The Vinted Group is made up of three business units that support this mission:
Vinted Marketplace is Europe’s leading platform for second-hand fashion and a go-to destination for all kinds of pre-loved items, with a growing range of categories. Our platform connects millions of members across 20+ markets, helping great items find a new life.
Vinted Go enhances the shipping experience with a vast network of over 500,000 pick-up and drop-off points, partnering with more than 60 carriers across Europe, with added services like item verification for peace of mind on high-value pieces.
Vinted Pay is the newest part of the Vinted Group, dedicated to bringing secure, reliable payments to buyers and sellers across Europe. Seamlessly integrated into the Vinted app, it helps keep every transaction safe, efficient, and easy for our members.
Founded in 2008 in Lithuania, Vinted began as a way for friends to find new homes for clothes they no longer needed. In 2019, we became Lithuania's first unicorn! Today, our headquarters remain in Vilnius, and we've grown with offices across Europe, supported by a team of over 2,000 people.
Information about the position
As Senior Backend Engineer in the Vinted Go Carrier domain, you will build backend systems that move parcels through Vinted Go's own logistics network, between hubs and through warehouses, quickly, reliably and at scale.
You'll join Vinted Go, the logistics arm of Vinted, focused on making shipping more affordable, convenient, and reliable. Your team, Pacman, owns mid-mile logistics and warehouse operations automation: how parcels are routed and transported between hubs, and how they are received, labelled, and dispatched.
We're looking for a strong engineer who also makes the engineers around them better: someone who leads the team's hardest technical problems and actively shares what they know, so the whole team grows with them.
In this position, you’ll
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that power mid-mile transport and warehouse operations.
- Own technical initiatives end to end, from problem framing and system design through delivery, monitoring, and iteration, and lead projects that span the team or the wider domain.
- Make architecture and trade-off decisions with a 6–12 month horizon, balancing scalability, reliability, maintainability, and tech debt.
- Help evolve our core service, a large Ruby on Rails modular monolith, towards clearer module boundaries and well-defined APIs.
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, Decision Science, and neighboring engineering teams to shape discovery, sequencing, and implementation, and align on contracts and dependencies through RFCs and technical discussions.
- Actively share knowledge: give thoughtful code reviews, pair on hard problems, walk the team through complex changes, and keep documentation useful.
- Help onboard new team members, mentor engineers informally, and trust others with meaningful work while supporting them to succeed.
- Work with a backend stack that includes Ruby, Vitess, Kafka, Jenkins, Elastic, and observability tools; you do not need to know all of it upfront.
- Take ownership of service reliability, alerts, metrics, SLOs, and incident follow-up, including participation in on-call rotations.
- Take part in hiring by interviewing candidates and helping raise the bar.
- Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve your development workflow and help the team move faster.
About you
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience, with a track record of building systems and owning work from design through production.
- Solid experience with Ruby, or the ability and motivation to learn Vinted's backend stack quickly.
- Good understanding of API design, database-backed systems, observability, and operating services in production.
- Works independently on problems of diverse scope, and is someone teammates turn to for advice on difficult technical matters.
- Pragmatic problem solver who balances delivery speed, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
- Comfortable working with ambiguity and breaking complex product or operational problems into clear technical steps.
- Genuinely enjoys sharing knowledge and mentoring others, and sees raising the team's engineering standards as part of the job.
- Gives direct, useful feedback, seeks it in return, and builds alignment across teams.
- Collaborative and clear communicator who works well with engineers, product managers, operations, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Advantage: experience with logistics, warehouse management, fulfillment, or operational workflows; integrating software with physical devices; or modularizing a large monolith.
