Information about the position
Vinted’s Revenue domain is growing — Ads business is on the mission to develop an advertising ecosystem within Vinted and we’re just getting started. We’re looking for a Data Scientist to join our cross-functional team in Ads to help us make the most of our real estate and evolve toward a high‑performance, privacy‑respectful, in‑house advertising ecosystem over time. Think: an ad of an external partner can generate euros directly but we may well advertise our own Marketplace services or newly launched categories to optimise on net revenue as well as user engagement. If you love shaping greenfield problems, balancing modelling with pragmatic coding, and turning data into decisions that scale, this role is for you.
In this position, you’ll:
- Drive domain objectives: Own the core Ads optimisation and modelling algorithms to drive revenue and performance.
- Lead and innovate: Prototype internal and external ads optimisation and recommendation models, and validate them via experiments and simulations. You’ll be able to bring structure to an early-stage problem space.
- Raise the bar on quality: Establish clear metrics for success (delivery health, incremental revenue, ad harm), instrument reliable measurement through experimentation.
- Unlock impact with data: Leverage internal behavioural signals to improve impression performance while respecting user well-being. Turn insights into actionable policies that scale across campaigns and surfaces.
- Ensure collaboration and alignment: Partner closely with Decision Scientists, Ads Engineering, Ad Operations, Product, and Revenue leadership teams to translate business goals into robust data and model choices. Communicate trade-offs clearly and early.
- Coordinate across teams: Work with platform and data teams to access the right datasets, improve data quality, and integrate your prototypes into production systems. Bonus if you can take models to production yourself.
- Build the future: Contribute to the long-term vision of a Vinted Ads Network. Start by nailing volume and reliability; then help us go deeper on relevance, efficiency, and ethical optimisation.
- Continuously improve: Stay current on optimisation, experimentation, and ads tech best practices — and bring those ideas into our day-to-day.
About you:
- Have a strong technical background through a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Have hands-on first experience with developing machine learning algorithms gathered in a product company or in academic research
- Well-versed in Python and SQL, BigQuery is an advantage
- Have a structured, meticulous way of working when trying out different approaches towards a set goal
- Be a conscious team player who understands when their work touches that of other team members and proactively aligns with them
- Good at explaining details of machine learning methods to lay audiences
- Solid written and spoken English
- Advantage: Experience with recommendation, ranking or retrieval based algorithms
- Advantage: Experience working in e-commerce, two-sided marketplaces, or digital advertising
- Advantage: Experience with productionising machine learning models in real-time use cases
- Advantage: Understanding of user harm/UX impact measurement and safety guardrails in recommender/ads systems.
