Information about the position 

As a Backend Engineer for Web Indexing, you will be responsible for developing the web crawling tools required for website data extraction and ingestion. You’re going to become a part of the Security Technologies team, whose main purpose is to provide technical capabilities for the other Marketplace teams. The team consists exclusively of backend engineers, ensuring you always have someone to discuss and bounce ideas off.

Additionally, you will closely collaborate with the Data Science & Analytics and Strategy teams, as they will be the main stakeholders, ensuring that we are building the right product.

In this position, you’ll 

  • Work with the Data Science & Analytics and Strategy teams to understand the technical and business requirements
  • Build and maintain web indexing services
  • Collaborate with the Infrastructure Engineering teams to find the best way to scale the applications
  • Monitor your code through Kibana, Grafana and other tools
  • Help define ambitious quarterly objectives and contribute to their successful delivery
  • Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews
  • Be a part of the Security Technologies team responsible for providing technical capabilities for the rest of the Marketplace teams

About you 

  • Proficient in Python with experience in versions 3.10+
  • Experience with object oriented programming and asynchronous programming patterns (Asyncio, Trio)
  • Experience with web crawling/indexing - writing crawlers (indexing, parsing XPATH and CSS selectors)
  • Experience with messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ or any other)
  • Experience with SQL databases
  • Experience with observability and monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, OpenTelemetry)
  • Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Familiar with CI/CD systems (ArgoCD, Jenkins)
  • Ability to express complex technical concepts in a simple way
  • Understanding of the trade-offs between different technologies
  • Quality-driven and result-oriented mindset
  • Willingness to continuously learn and master new technologies and concepts
  • Excellent written and spoken English
