Information about the position 

We are looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to join our young team to provide self-help and machine-help for our Vinted members. This team has the potential to save millions of euros and transform stranded users into engaged advocates of our sustainable marketplace. This directly supports our mission to make second-hand first choice worldwide.

As our new Lead Backend Engineer in this team, you will play an integral role in rewriting the first touch point for all Vinted users seeking support — our Help Centre. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with the team to develop a scalable and highly effective Customer Support Chatbot to assist Vinted members. We will assess and implement the best and latest technologies to personalise the experience. You’ll have the opportunity to expand your skills in many directions, gaining hands-on experience with AI, ML and Search technologies, and leveraging them to impact millions of users.

In this position, you’ll 

  • Work in a cross-functional team and design and build features that improve our members’ lives by finding help fast and effortlessly
  • Collaborate with other developers during pairing sessions, design deep dives and code reviews
  • Continuously improve our code quality and nurture our test suite (RSpec). We have >10000 tests which run in ~5 minutes through our Jenkins setup
  • See your code affect 100+ million users almost instantly. Our main branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge. We deploy many times per day
  • Work with Golang, Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Memcached, Redis, Kafka, Vespa and many more technologies
  • Craft code that can handle more than 2M requests per minute on our Kubernetes clusters. Monitor your deployed code through Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog and Kibana
  • Tightly collaborate with our Staff Engineer on architectural topics and support other engineers in their growth

About you

  • During the past years, you gathered strong knowledge in multiple high-level programming languages and gained extensive experience in software development
  • You have profound expertise in Golang; being knowledgeable in Ruby on Rails is a plus
  • Excitement to learn and master new technologies and concepts
  • Experience or an interest in AI, LLM, chatbots or search technology is a plus
  • You have the desire and commitment to grow personally and professionally
  • You have prior experience in mentoring engineers
  • You are a proficient communicator in spoken and written English

Individual Learning Budget

Vinted will set aside a yearly sum equal to 10% of your annual salary to be invested in your continuous professional development. You’ll be able to take the initiative to use it for covering relevant learning activities that benefit your role.

Hybrid Work

We’ve adopted a hybrid workplace model where 2 days in the office are recommended but not enforced. It’s up to you and your team to decide on the exact days you’ll spend working together in person.
