Information about the position 

As our new Data Scientist, you’ll become part of a cross-functional team in the Help Experience domain with a mission to enable an effortless, scalable and cost effective support experience for our Vinted members. Your team’s focus will be on enabling quality and efficiency improvements through automation, self-service, and operational excellence.

We’re looking for someone who is a strategic thinker, a problem solver, with a strong data background, who aims high. You like to work in a fast-changing environment, and you are passionate about the product we’re building together. 

Next to the product team you will be part of the cross-domain Data Science & Analytics (DSA) guild where you will interact and learn from all data people in Vinted. Within Data Science & Analytics (DSA) we have three distinct roles. To understand your role within DSA context better, here are brief descriptions of each role we have in the department:

Decision Scientists are responsible for actionable insights, identifying and sizing opportunities, and automated tools that increase the quality of product and business decisions by applying statistical methods and data-driven decision making.

Analytics Engineers are responsible for data curation – translating data needs from stakeholders into architecting, building and maintaining efficient & reliable data models and pipelines.

Data Scientists are responsible for identification of algorithmic opportunities, ensuring those opportunities are addressed in an optimal fashion and design, development and maintenance of production-grade statistical and machine learning algorithms.

You will report to the Director of Data Science & analytics in Help Experience and work closely with other leaders in the domain, particularly in the data science & analytics and product functions. 

In this position, you’ll 

  • Collaborate with your team and stakeholders to proactively identify data science opportunities
  • Ensure these opportunities are addressed in an optimal fashion (e.g. right balance between algorithmic complexity and impact) 
  • Work on LLMs in production along with designing, building and maintaining other machine learning models that improves customer support agents productivity
  • Work together with your team and partners (Product Owner, Designer, Engineers) to refine, implement, and test new product features and algorithms
  • Opportunity to work with data in multiple languages 
  • Take ownership and write clean, easy-to-understand code, and contribute to the team’s scientific and data software
  • Mentor data and decision scientists to expand their statistics knowledge
  • Drive a culture of experimentation in Help Experience domain

About you 

  • Extensive experience as a Data Scientist with a strong data component or 5+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Working experience with Python
  • Fluent in SQL, experience with dbt and BigQuery is an advantage
  • Understanding of statistics (frequentist, Bayesian, time series) 
  • Experience working with machine learning in a production environment and machine learning frameworks (e.g. scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch,, Tensorflow).
  • Good to have experience with Large Language Models (OpenAI’s GPT, Hugging Face, LangChain, RAG, Vector Embeddings, LLaMA or other open-source or fine-tuned models) used at scale in a production environment.
  • Proven ability to deconstruct projects into manageable components and lead them to successful completion, showcasing strong project management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a results-oriented mindset.
  • A team player with a pragmatic and iterative approach, with excellent communication skills.

Vinted will set aside a yearly sum equal to 10-13.2% of your annual salary to be invested in your continuous professional development. You’ll be able to take the initiative to use it for covering relevant learning activities that benefit your role.

Hybrid Work

We’ve adopted a hybrid workplace model where 2 days in office are recommended but not enforced. It’s up to you and your team to decide on the exact days you’ll spend working together in person.
