Information about the position
In Payments, backend software engineers work in Product Engineering teams. The teams have all the competencies to drive decisions and delivery. Usually, teams consist of backend engineers, QA, Engineering Manager, Decision Scientist and Product Manager. Backend software engineers are the ones who implement business logic which integrates both with Vinted Marketplace and third-party providers. We already have multiple services running and we are planning to expand here allowing teams to work autonomously and deliver product features fast. Backend software engineers are also responsible for growing our backend platform to handle a wider scale.
Vinted is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who’s skilled in writing elegant code and to work on large-scale projects that impact millions of payments, with the goal of preparing our product for future challenges and advancing our vision of making second-hand the first choice worldwide, specifically within our core Payments system.

In this position, you’ll
- Work in a team and shape the features to make our members’ experience with payments better
- Apply Agile and Lean principles in your work
- Collaborate with other developers through GitHub pull requests and code reviews
- See your code to affect 80+ million users almost instantly. Our main branch gets rolled out straight to production on each merge. We deploy many times per day.
- Work with Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Temporal and many more technologies. We don't expect you to be familiar with all of them beforehand, but we expect you will be excited to learn them
- Write unit tests (RSpec) for all of the code you write. We have >10000 tests which run in ~5 minutes through our Jenkins setup. You will contribute to integration and e2e test writing and their usage
- Monitor our code through Kibana, Grafana,Jaeger, well defined alerting process and new tools that you will introduce
- Take ownership of Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and other Business Metrics within the product team to assure our services reliability and correct performance
- Be ready to participate (once needed) in our well designed on-call rotation every 8-10 weeks

- Strong backend engineering skills, with experience in Ruby and Go being an advantage.

- You have excellent communication skills and can collaborate effectively with teams across different domains and with non-technical stakeholders.
